What is the Fort Worth Design District?

“A business enclave made for creative entrepreneurs in fashion, design, architecture, technology, and other fields that prize both design and aesthetics. About 40 acres, Fort Worth Design District features retail shop spaces, studios and workshops, showrooms, light industrial spaces for makers, distributors and manufacturers and office suites.”

The bottom line is this about design districts: they are exciting new destinations within cities which are doing away with the old and welcoming in the spectacular new.
The Fort Worth Design District is comprised of three main entities: Box Office Warehouse Suites, Paddock Place Office Suites, and Golden Triangle Business Park. It is located in the Alliance Area, one of the fastest growing commercial, industrial, and residential area in the Dallas/Fort Worth Megaplex. It is, in a word, the “future” of Fort Worth, and it is the brainchild of Ron Sturgeon, local entrepreneur and real estate developer.
What is the point of the Designer District?
According to Mr. Sturgeon, the whole point is vibrancy if the community:
“We wanted to develop something unique to Fort Worth. We wanted to offer commercial and industrial space for lease for small businesses, because we believe small businesses are the future of commerce and the heart and soul of any community. We wanted to develop something which was environmentally conscious, and so we built an entire business park out of used storage containers. We wanted a gathering place for the community, so we arranged to have events and festivals throughout the year. We think the Fort Worth Design District will eventually become the new hub of Fort Worth.”
Lofty goals indeed, but one trip through The District will tell you that perhaps those goals are not as lofty as they first sound. The bright colors of the region jump out at you first. The graffiti art grabs your attention. The magnificent horse barn housing coworking space is pleasing to the eye and captures the ranchland/Old West vibe of the past. The District is where old Texas meets new Texas, and it is becoming a popular destination for locals and visitors.
